New update changes are very bad!!!

I have used this app mostly in the background as my morning alarm at home for years. It was very reliable. I only open it and used the clock when I traveled. After a few missed alarms with the iOS 10 update, I deleted and reinstalled it and it worked fine again. Now the most recent "fix" of the app has caused it just to give me a notification sound and no alarm sound unless the app is open. That means I have to remember to open the app at night to turn my alarm on. And then, I am force to open the iPad to turn the sound off instead of just using touching volume button as it was before.
THIS NEEDS TO BE RETURNED TO ITS OLD WAY. Different isnt always better, especially since it is no longer what I paid for... a reliable alarm.
